Already working in Greater Manchester
We already support clients in Greater Manchester, including George Brown & Sons, the Bury-based plumbing and heating engineers, along with contractors whose projects take them to sites across the city region. Because we're close by, we can be on site for inspections, audits and assessments without long lead times.
Who regulates what in Greater Manchester
- Fire safety: Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service enforces the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 across all ten boroughs.
- Workplace health and safety: for offices, shops, pubs, restaurants and hotels, it's usually the local council's environmental health team. That's Manchester City Council, or Salford, Trafford, Stockport, Bury, Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside or Wigan. For construction, factories and warehouses, it's the HSE.
- Rented housing and HMOs: each council handles HMO licensing, and several operate additional or selective licensing in parts of their area. Schemes change, so check the council's current rules. We can help you work out what applies to your properties.
What we see in Manchester
Greater Manchester has one of the UK's busiest construction markets, with a lot of city-centre residential and mixed-use development. That brings CDM duties for clients and contractors, and for taller residential buildings, the stricter regime for higher-risk buildings introduced by the Building Safety Act 2022. The region also has a large private rented sector, including student HMOs, and a busy hospitality scene. Fire safety in shared and converted buildings is a recurring theme.
