ISO 45001 audit preparation without the last-minute scramble

We get your occupational health and safety management system ready for certification, and keep it ready for every surveillance audit after that.

About ISO 45001

ISO 45001:2018 is the international standard for occupational health and safety management systems. It isn't a legal requirement, but it's increasingly asked for in tenders and by larger clients, and it's a strong framework for managing health and safety well.

Certification is carried out by an independent certification body, ideally one accredited by UKAS. It usually involves a Stage 1 audit (are you ready?) and a Stage 2 audit (is the system working in practice?), followed by regular surveillance audits and recertification. We prepare you for those audits. We don't certify you, which keeps the process independent.

How we help

  • Gap analysis against each part of the standard: context, leadership and worker participation, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation and improvement
  • Management system documentation, including policy, objectives, hazard identification and risk assessment, a legal register, operational controls and emergency preparedness
  • Incident, nonconformity and corrective action processes that people will actually use
  • Internal audits and management review, both required before certification
  • A pre-assessment, so there are no surprises on audit day
  • Support during the audits and help closing any nonconformities
  • Ongoing support to stay ready for surveillance audits

Built on what you already do

If you already have risk assessments, policies and training records, you're further along than you think. We build the management system around the way your business already works, rather than burying you in paperwork, so it's something your team can keep running after certification.

FAQs

ISO 45001 questions

Do we legally need ISO 45001?

No. It's voluntary. Many businesses pursue it because clients or tenders ask for it, or because they want a recognised framework for managing health and safety.

How long does it take to get ready?

It depends on where you're starting from and the size of your organisation. A gap analysis tells us exactly what's needed, and we'll give you a realistic plan from there.

What's the difference between ISO 45001 and SSIP schemes like CHAS?

SSIP schemes assess whether a contractor meets core health and safety criteria. ISO 45001 certifies a complete management system, so it's broader and involves ongoing audits. Some businesses hold both.

Can you act as our certification body?

No. Certification must be independent, so we prepare and support you, and an independent certification body carries out the certification audits.
