Next door to Chester
Wrexham is one of our closest areas to work in, and we already support clients whose projects take them to sites across North Wales. Many businesses here work on both sides of the border, so it helps to have advisers who understand both the English and Welsh rules.
Where Wales is different
- Fire safety: the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 applies in Wales as in England. In this area it's enforced by North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
- Workplace health and safety: the same GB-wide law applies, including the Health and Safety at Work Act, CDM 2015 and RIDDOR. Wrexham County Borough Council or Flintshire County Council enforce in offices, shops and hospitality, and the HSE covers construction and industry.
- Landlords: housing law is different. Private landlords must register, and be licensed or use a licensed agent, through Rent Smart Wales. Under the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016, homes must be fit for human habitation, which includes working, interlinked mains-powered smoke alarms on every storey and electrical safety testing at least every five years.
- Building regulations are set separately by the Welsh Government.
What we see in Wrexham
Wrexham Industrial Estate is one of the largest in the UK, so manufacturing and engineering are a big part of our work here: machinery safety, COSHH, noise and workplace transport. We also support local contractors who need SSIP accreditation to work for larger clients, and landlords meeting the Welsh requirements.
